The vulnerability is caused due to a signedness error in unirpc32.dll when processing a size value from the Uni RPC protocol packet header. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted request sent to the Uni RPC service (unirpcd.exe) on e.g. TCP port 31438. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. The vulnerability is reported in the following products: * Rocket U2 UniVerse versions prior to 10.3.9. * Rocket U2 UniData versions prior to 7.2.8. SOLUTION: Reportedly fixed in UniVerse 10.3.9 and in UniData 7.2.8. Contact the vendor for further information. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Ruben Santamarta, reported via ZDI.
