TITLE: Doomsday Format String Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19515 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19515/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: DoS, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Doomsday 1.x http://secunia.com/product/9154/ DESCRIPTION: Luigi Auriemma has reported two vulnerabilities in Doomsday, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise a vulnerable system. The vulnerabilities are caused due to format string errors in the "Con_Message()" and "conPrintf()" functions and can be exploited by connecting to port 13209/tcp and passing a specially crafted JOIN command containing format specifiers. Successful exploitation crashes the server and may potentially allow code execution. The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 1.8.6 and current SVN version 1.9.0. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Host and play games on trusted networks only. Use another product.
