NEW LINE CINEMA PRELIMINARY PRODUCTION INFORMATION

MORTAL KOMBAT

In New Line Cinema's upcoming action-adventure Mortal Kombat Earth's finest mortal combatants are pitted against evil superhuman foes in the forbidding realm of Outworld. At stake? Nothing less than the fate of the world and all its inhabitants.

The film will draw on the strength of the characters and the mystical backstory that have made Mortal Kombat so successful as it follows LIU KANG (Robin Shou), JOHNNY CAGE (Linden Ashby), and SONYA BLADE (Bridgette Wilson) on their journey to defend the future of mankind. Guided by the mighty Thunder God RAYDEN (Christopher Lambert), the three mortals learn to overcome their inner fears and discover that there is much more at stake than their personal quests -- and that ultimately Mortal Kombat is a tournament not about death, but about life.

Led by the evil Sorcerer SHANG TSUNG (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), strange and powerful enemies will fight equally hard to defeat their mortal adversaries in their mission to win the tenth Mortal Kombat -- including the fearsome four armed Shokan Prince GORO, who has won Mortal Kombat for the last nine generations. If he triumphs again this time, the portals of Earth will be open and the darkness and despair that have blighted Outworld will reign over the Earth for eternity.

But the three mortals have a secret weapon, the beautiful Princess KITANA (Talisa Soto). Unbeknownst to SHANG TSUNG and the Emperor, KITANA has decided that it is time for her to assume her right to the thrown of Outworld. This Mortal Kombat, with these three tenacious mortals, will give her the chance that she has been waiting for, the opportunity to re-establish the beauty and tranquility that once flourished in the now desolate realm of Outworld.

Alison Savitch (“Terminator 2,” “Dracula,” “The Shadow”) will oversee all visual effects. Academy Award-winning studio R. Greenberg Associates, responsible for such films as “Death Becomes Her” and “In the Line of Fire,” will create all the computer generated effects for “Mortal Kombat.”

Creature effects wizards Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis (“Alien,” “Wolf”) will bring Prince GORO to life. It will be the most advanced animatronic creature ever created for a motion picture.

Assembling this production team is producer Larry Kasanoff, who supervised production on the box-office phenomenon and Academy Award-winning film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” and is Executive Producer of this summer's smash hit True Lies, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Directing the film is Paul Anderson, the hot young mastermind behind “Shopping,” dubbed by critics as "the sexiest British movie this year."

Christopher Lambert plays RAYDEN, immortal Thunder God and Protector of the Realm of Earth, who guides the three mortals on their path to fulfill their destiny. Lambert, who was the recipient of the 1986 French Cesar Best Actor Award for his work in Luc Besson's “Subway,” is best known for his work in the “Highlander” films, as well as “Fortress.” His other credits include “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan.”

The stunning ten thousand year old Princess KITANA, rightful heir to the thrown of Outworld, will be played by the exotic Talisa Soto. Soto recently finished working in New Line Cinema's “Don Juan De Marco and the Centerfold” starring Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp and Faye Dun away. Her other credits include “The Doors,” “Mambo Kings” and “License To Kill.”

Linden Ashby plays JOHNNY CAGE, the egotistical American superstar. He most recently starred with Kevin Costner in this summer's “Wyatt Earp” from acclaimed director Lawrence Kasdan. His other credits include “Eight Seconds” and “Mr. and Mrs. Bridge,” starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa will play SHANG TSUNG, the evil Sorcerer of Outworld. Tagawa is famous for his roles in such movies as “Rising Sun” and “License to Kill.” His other credits include “The Last Emperor” and “Twins.” Tagawa has been featured often on television as well, in such series as "Bay Watch," "Star Trek The Next Generation," "Jake and the Fat Man" and "Alien Nation."

LIU KANG, the strong and solemn warrior, will be played by Robin Shou. An accomplished martial artist and former National Forms Champion, Shou is well established in the Chinese cinema, where he has starred in several movies

Special Forces agent SONYA BLADE will be played by tough beauty Bridgette Wilson. Wilson played the lead in “The Last Action Hero” opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, and can be seen in the upcoming film “Billy Madison” with Adam Sandler.

KANO, Sonya's bitter enemy, will be played by Trevor Goddard, who will be featured in the upcoming films “Men at War,” “Illegal in Blue” and “The Break.” Goddard's television credits are extensive, ranging from "Murphy Brown," "Empty Nest" and "The Commish" to "Dark Justice" and "Renegade." A native of Australia, Goddard has appeared on stage in both Los Angeles and London. He was recently awarded the LA Dramalogue and LA Weekly Best Performance awards for his work in “The Cock and Bull Story" at the Fountainhead Theatre.

Mortal Kombat will be rated PG-13 and is scheduled for release by New Line Cinema in the Spring of 1995.
