The weakness is caused due to the "delete()" function in pptpsetup creating the "/etc/ppp/chap-secrets" file with insecure permissions, which can be exploited to e.g. disclose the password. Successful exploitation requires that the administrator used the "--delete" function of pptpsetup. The weakness is reported in version 1.7.2. Other versions may also be affected.
