VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/30036/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
DoS, System access

WHERE:
>From local network

SOFTWARE:
SNMPc 7.x
http://secunia.com/product/14404/

DESCRIPTION:
Wade Alcorn and John Heasman have reported a vulnerability in SNMPc,
which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of
Service) or compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the SNMPc
Network Manager when processing SNMP TRAP packets. This can be
exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by sending a
specially crafted UDP packet containing an overly long community
string to an affected system.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is reported in version 7.1. Prior versions may also
be affected.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 7.1.1.
