The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors within the "gethostbyname()" and "getipnodebyname()" functions in the "nss_winbind.so.1" library. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via an overly large string passed to the NSS interface. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the winbindd daemon is running and configured to use the "nss_winbind.so.1" library. The vulnerabilities are reported in version 3.0.21 through 3.0.23d running on Sun Solaris. SOLUTION: Update to version 3.0.24. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: The vendor credits Olivier Gay.
