The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "LookupTRM::lookup()" function when retrieving album release dates. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by returning an overly long release date string (more than 100 bytes). Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code in context of an application using the vulnerable library. The vulnerability has been reported in version 0.4.2. Other versions may be also affected. SOLUTION: Apply patch. http://bugs.musicbrainz.org/attachment/ticket/1764/libtunepimp-0.4.2-lookuptools.cpp-fix-buffer-overflow.diff PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Kevin Kofler ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://bugs.musicbrainz.org/ticket/1764 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
