The vulnerability is caused due to an error within the handling of the argument passed to the "USER" command. This can be exploited to crash the FTP server via a large number of newline characters passed as argument to the command. The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 1.01 released 2006-04-06. SOLUTION: Filter malicious requests in a proxy or firewall with FTP filtering capabilities.
