TITLE: Gaim-Encryption Malformed Encrypted Message Denial of Service SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17739 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17739/ CRITICAL: Not critical IMPACT: DoS WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Gaim-Encryption 2.x http://secunia.com/product/6229/ DESCRIPTION: Joerg Kurlbaum has discovered a weakness in Gaim-Encryption, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service). The weakness is caused due to an error in the "GE_received_key()" function of "keys.c" when using the "sscanf()" function to determine the start position of the key in an encrypted message. This can be exploited to crash Gaim via a malformed encrypted message if the Gaim-Encryption plugin is enabled. The weakness has been confirmed in version 2.38 on Gaim v1.3.1-0.fc4. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Disable the Gaim-Encryption plugin when not sending encrypted messages.
