VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/15304/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
System access

WHERE:
>From remote

SOFTWARE:
HT Editor 0.x
http://secunia.com/product/5074/

DESCRIPTION:
Two vulnerabilities have been reported in HT Editor, which
potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
user's system.

1) An integer overflow in the ELF (Executable and Linking Format)
parser can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by
tricking a user into opening a specially crafted file.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

2) A boundary error in the PE (Portable Executable) parser can be
exploited to cause a buffer overflow by tricking a user into opening
a specially crafted file.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

SOLUTION:
The vulnerabilities have been fixed in the CVS repository.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
1) Tavis Ormandy, Gentoo Linux Security Team.
