TITLE: uim Environment Variable Trust Privilege Escalation SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA13981 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/13981/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Privilege escalation WHERE: Local system SOFTWARE: uim 0.x http://secunia.com/product/4680/ DESCRIPTION: Takumi Asaki has reported a vulnerability in uim, which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges. The problem is that the contents of environment variables always are trusted. This can be exploited to gain escalated privileges when libuim is linked against an application running setuid/setgid. Successful exploitation requires "immodule for Qt" enabled Qt. SOLUTION: Update to version 0.4.5.1. http://uim.freedesktop.org/wiki/UimDownload PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Takumi Asaki ORIGINAL ADVISORY: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/uim/2005-February/000996.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
